Man United ace Cristiano cheats death as car SKIDS and SHOOTS across road ...CRASHES through big hedge, DOWN a 10ft ditch... CAREERS across field, FLATTENS hedge No2... JINKS across lawn, ROARS up a private drive & ZIPS back on road () AND NOT EVEN A STEP-OVER IN SIGHT!

SOCCER star Cristiano Ronaldo cheated death after taking the worst corner of his career - in his high-powered Porsche.



The £12.24million Man United ace, famed for his mazy runs down the wing, lost control on a bend.



Then, in an amazing series of manoeuvres, 20-year-old Ronaldo:



-SKIDDED across the road at about 50mph before bouncing up the kerb.



-HURTLED through a thick hedge, snapping off one small tree at the base.



-PLUNGED down a 10ft bank into a ditch before careering off across a field when he realised there was no chance of getting back up the steep slope.



-SMASHED through a second hedge in his robust 4x4 Cayenne, landing in the garden of a £400,000 house.



-JINKED across the lawn, leaving a trail of tyre tracks, to reach the property's private drive.



-BLAZED off in his silver motor to get back on to the road he'd left so spectacularly.



A woman driver who was following the star and saw the crash said: "He stopped for a moment and I ran over to ask if he was OK.



"The front of his four-wheel drive was damaged and there were scratches all down the sides of it. He was chatting on his phone in Portuguese."Then he told me, 'My head hurts. Everything went black'. When I asked if he wanted me to call anyone he said, 'No, I am waiting for my family'."



Ronaldo was heading towards Wilmslow, Cheshire, on the A538 near Manchester Airport when he was caught out in his trendy Porsche with darkened windows.



The eyewitness said: "There was a sharp turn but instead of bearing left he went straight across the road.



"He was very lucky there wasn't any oncoming traffic because he could have killed himself or someone else.



"Luckily, a tree broke his fall into the ditch otherwise the vehicle could have flipped on to its roof.



"Once he was in the ditch he could not get back out the same way so he had to drive forwards across the field, through the long grass.



"When he'd finished there were big holes in the hedges, a few trees broken and the garden was all churned up like they'd had mechanical diggers in.



"He was dressed in jeans and a jumper and had a sticky label with his name written on it.



"It didn't look as if he was bleeding or injured in any way, just shaken up. I left him there and drove off."



The astonishing incident last Wednesday was just the latest motoring mishap for Ronaldo - whose road skills seem no match for his prowess on the pitch.



A pal of the Portuguese international said: "Despite living in England for over a year he still finds driving very difficult on the British roads.



"He's run into a few dead ends in his time on the pitch but nothing quite like this."



Ronaldo, who scored in United's FA Cup win over Millwall last May, turned up for training on Thursday in a blue top-of-the-range A8 Audi. One pal revealed: "He has told a few close friends about his mishap.



"But he dreads his team-mates finding out what happened because he knows they will take the mickey big time."



The house where Ronaldo carved up the garden is being renovated. It is believed that the owner plans to live there with her son and daughter-in-law once building work is complete.



Yesterday her son, who refused to be named, shrugged off the incident. He said: "We've not moved in yet.



"It's not really a problem, what with all the other work going on. There was no one here when it happened. I don't want to get drawn into it.



"It's only grass."



Ronaldo came unstuck the day after Arsenal ace Jermaine Pennant, 22, was jailed for three months for drink-driving after crashing his Mercedes.



Manchester United youth players Mads Timm, 20, and Callum Flanagan, 19, both got time in a young offenders' institution on Thursday for dangerous driving.



There was a crash as they raced their cars.



Ronaldo was unavailable for comment after Manchester United's 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace last night.
